There are some places you almost donât want to write about. Not because theyâre wildly exclusive or totally unknownâbut because they feel like a moment you want to keep for yourself. A place you wandered into on a sunny afternoon, where the lake sparkled just right, and the spritz was cold and perfect.
This spot in Varenna? Itâs that place for me.
I came across it after strolling through the narrow streets and peeking around the edge of the promenade. Itâs not exactly hidden, but somehow it still feels like a secretâlike the kind of place that, despite the tables filling up quickly, gives you a little slice of serenity with one of the best lake views Iâve ever seen.
Yes, itâs popular. And yes, itâs mostly tourists. But itâs not overwhelming in the way that some âview barsâ can be. The vibe is still relaxed, the scenery unbeatable, and if you time it right, you can snag a front-row seat to the water without much effort.
Just know this: there might be a short wait. The tables fill up fast, especially in the late afternoon and early evening. But the waiters will seat you (no hovering needed), and trust meâitâs worth it.
đ Order a spritz. Or a Hugo. Maybe a glass of local prosecco. You can eat here, sure, but personally, I think itâs best just for drinks. The energy picks up fast, and things can get a little hectic during peak hours. This is more of a golden hour sip-and-soak-it-in stop than a proper dinner spot.
So whatâs the name of this little dream scene?
